Play Date for a Good Cause!

In my efforts to give more and serve others better this year I have been looking around the community for ways I can do my part. I would love to volunteer at the Utah Food Bank, but that isn't really a possibility right now being home with little ones all the time. So, I decided to bring the volunteer work home, and get the kids involved too!!

I will be collecting boxes from the Food Bank this week for Hudson to decorate and would love to have friends join in on the fun! They are just the large cardboard boxes used to deliver food to those in need and help brighten up an otherwise ordinary container (and hopefully brighten someone's day!)

I don't know what time works best for everyone. I was thinking either Tuesday or Thursday next week (the 2nd or 4th) around 10 am. If you are interested, give some input and we can go from there! See you soon!!!

Idea...

I have a Crazy Fabulous idea. I always hear friends of mine talking about their "Girls Weekend". I am always jealous because it sounds like so much fun. Well, considering I don't have any sisters, and the only BIG group of friends I have is YOU GALS, I thought I might run an idea past all of you.
What do you think about having a Girls Weekend Getaway in
!!!???PaRk CiTy???!!!
I was running the numbers, and it actually would be pretty cheap. We could get a few hotel rooms and sleep four ladies to a room (which means we would all pay 1/4 the price of the room). We could also go shopping, swimming, hot tubbing, out to dinner, movies, and just veg out (chatting, snacking, etc.) in our hotel room all night. We could go on a Friday, spend the night, and hang out all day on Saturday. The getaway could be totally personalized too. If you wanted to stay longer, or shorter, you could do whatever you want. We could plan it in advance so that we can all start saving money, and/or setting aside some time in our busy lives.
I know, it sounds kind of crazy to me too...but think of how much FUN it would be.
I want input from ALL of you ladies so we can work on putting something together.
Let me know what you think!

More Life-DeCluttering

So I was reading my cousins blog and she was so impressed with her friend that she added a link to a recent blog entry she wrote. I read it and was so impressed I thought I'd pass it along. I thought it had great advice.

This is from http://jeremynmary.blogspot.com/

More Life (posted January 20, 2010)
So I was watching Oprah a while back and she had a show featuring woman around the world and how they live. It was so interesting! The people that really impressed me the most was the people of Copenhagen Denmark. They are very family oriented. They get off work at 4:00, they eat all their meals together, and they spent their time with their family. But what really made an impression on me was the way they lived. Their homes where very small and very clean. The average family had about 3 children. But Oprah went into one family's home and she was amazed at how clean and clutter free it was. Then the husband said these simple but ingenious words, "Less Space, Less Stuff, More Life". That hit me like a ton of bricks. The bigger the house, the more to clean, and the more stuff we put into it. All I do all day long is move stuff, clean stuff, get rid of stuff, or buy stuff. I am so busy with those things that I don't really get the time to do the things I love, which is be with my family. So I took it as a challenge. I went through my entire house and de cluttered. This was a big project that took me many days but it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. My laundry is under control, my kitchen is easy to clean, the toys are simple to put away. I can't tell you the change it has brought to my life. It was very freeing to get rid of things. Plus Jeremy and I have decided for 1 year to not buy STUFF. Only food, gas, vacations, or things for other people, like for Birthdays, ect. One year should really make a difference in our bank account and our life. These are the simple things I did.

1) De cluttered all of the kids clothes. They are allowed 7 shirts, 5 pairs of pants, and 2 church outfits. That is it. I packed away the shorts and short sleeves for summer. Out in our garage Jeremy put hooks on the wall for coats and bags. Below each child has a bin for shoes, hats, gloves, ect. So all of that stays out of the bedrooms and house. And it all has a home. Laundry is a cinch!

2) De cluttered all the kitchen cabinets and got rid of the junk I never use. Cleared off my counters with only a couple things left.

3) All closets are clean. Extra stuff put into the storage room.

4) I packed away extra towels and kitchen towels. I didn't want to get rid of them knowing they are expensive plus they wear out. So I only left what we use. Closets are clutter free and the laundry doesn't get out of control.

5) If you haven't used it for a year, your probably not going to. Donate it so someone else can!

Simple things that really make a difference. Less stuff, more life!

Successful Mothering Convention

On Saturday, January 30 at the Southtown Expo Center they are holding the Successful Mothering Convention. It sounds fun and interesting to me. Does anyone want to go? It's from 10 am to 6 pm. They have vendors and lots of speakers on various topics (mothering, budgeting, relationships, cooking, etc.)

www.successfulmothering.com

Only downside is that tickets are $25 (if you buy online, $35 at the door). I am trying to see if I can find some discount tickets through a friend who is a vendor, but I don't know if she can or not.

Anyone interested?

NEW UPDATE: If we have a group of 20 or more and we purchase the tickets at one time, we can get $5 off each ticket, so they would be $20 each. So invite your friends and we can buy the tickets together to get the discount. So far there are five of us that want to go.

Ladies Night

Okay girls, I'm already planning the next Ladies Night.

Date and Time: Tuesday January 19th at 9:30 pm

Place: Carmen's house

We'll be making those cute bows that Carmen's little girlies wear all the time in their hair. For those of you that don't have a need to make the bows, or a desire, please come and hang out and visit.

I don't know what supplies we need to bring so I guess I'll ask Carmen to post on here what we might need to bring. Obviously ribbon and some kind of clippy.

"Carmen can you post what we'll need to bring to your house to make our bows?" LOL There, I asked her.

Hope to see you all there!
